Acetylation

Categories: impurities , peptide mapping , post translational modification

Definition

A post-translational modification (PTM). Acetylation is the addition of an acetyl group which can occur at lysine residues or at the protein’s N-terminus. The reverse is called deacetylation.

BioPharmaSpec assesses for acetylation using a combination of intact molecular weight analysis (to show a mass difference from the expected) and peptide mapping (to confirm the PTM and assess for the site of the modification).
