Carbonylation
Definition
A post-translational modification (PTM). Carbonylation is the modification of histidine, cysteine and lysine in proteins to aldehydes and ketones. A result of oxidative stress.
BioPharmaSpec assesses for carbonylation using a combination of intact molecular weight analysis (to show a mass difference from the expected) and peptide mapping (to confirm the PTM and assess for the site of the modification).
