Definition

Also known as Information Dependent Acquisition (IDA), Data Dependent Acquisition (DDA) is a mode of data collection in tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) where certain peptides within a narrow mass range are fragmented. In DDA mode, the mass spectrometer selects the most intense peptide ions in the first stage of tandem mass spectrometry, and then they are fragmented and analyzed in a second stage. An alternative to DDA is DIA (Data Independent Acquisition).
