Gamma Carboxylation

Categories: Glossary: Peptide Mapping , mass spectrometry , post translational modification

Definition

A post translational modification of glutamic acid residues found in clotting factors and other coagulation cascade proteins.

BioPharmaSpec assesses for gamma carboxylation using a combination of intact molecular weight analysis (to show a mass difference from the expected) and peptide mapping (to confirm the PTM and assess for the site of the modification).
