Lipidation

Categories: Glossary: Peptide Mapping , mass spectrometry , post translational modification

Definition

A post translational modification of adding lipids to protein (e.g. lipid-anchored proteins – prenylated protein, fatty acylated proteins and glycosylphosphatidylinositol-linked proteins).

BioPharmaSpec assesses for lipidation using a combination of intact molecular weight analysis (to show a mass difference from the expected) and peptide mapping (to confirm the PTM and assess for the site of the modification).
