The first step of genetic expression during protein biosynthesis and the process of creating a copy of DNA into an mRNA template. This occurs when a gene is turned on and does not require a primer like DNA replication. Although complementary base-pairing occurs, in RNA, Uracil replaces the Thymine of DNA. The template produced during transcription, mRNA transcript, is decoded in the next step- Translation.
