VIP Guests Visit BioPharmaSpec Laboratories in Jersey

His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey, Vice Admiral Sir Jeremy Kyd KBE, and Lady Kyd Visit BioPharmaSpec Laboratory, Jersey

BioPharmaSpec was honored by a visit to our laboratories in the Lido Medical Centre on the 12th of February, 2026, by His Majesty King Charles III’s representative on Jersey, His Excellency the Governor Sir Jeremy 'Jerry' Kyd KBE, and his wife, Lady Kyd. Before joining the Royal Navy, where he commanded the UK Carrier Strike Group (2015) and became Vice Admiral (2019), the governor studied biology at Southampton University. Lady Kyd qualified in medicine, practicing as a GP, and therefore, both our guests were interested in the high-technology science being carried out at BioPharmaSpec. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase BioPharmaSpec’s pivotal role in supporting the characterization of innovative bio/pharmaceutical therapeutics developed around the world.

During their time at the facility, His Excellency and Lady Kyd were welcomed by BioPharmaSpec Chairman and CSO, Professor Howard R. Morris FRS, and members of the BioPharmaSpec leadership team. The delegation learned how BioPharmaSpec supports biopharma drug developers with high-quality analytical services that underpin discovery, early-stage, and preclinical development decisions, helping clients to efficiently progress safe and effective therapies.

The visit commenced with a short presentation by Professor Morris outlining BioPharmaSpec’s global footprint and scientific heritage, followed by a guided tour of the Jersey laboratories. Director of Biochemical Services MJ O’Connor and Senior Scientist Dr. Christina Morris were on-site to guide His Excellency and Lady Kyd through the Jersey facility, explaining how BioPharmaSpec scientists use advanced mass spectrometric and chromatographic workflows to characterize complex bio/pharmaceuticals. Their demonstrations highlighted how state‑of‑the‑art instrumentation, combined with deep data‑interpretation expertise, generates high‑quality structural and physicochemical data that support biosimilar comparability, process development, and regulatory‑aligned characterization strategies for a wide range of modalities.

Their Excellencies were introduced to the range of complex biologic modalities analyzed at BioPharmaSpec, including monoclonal antibodies and their related formats (biosimilars, biobetters, bispecifics, and fusion proteins), antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), recombinant and heavily glycosylated proteins, gene therapy products such as AAV-based therapies, peptide therapeutics, oligonucleotide therapeutics, and recombinant vaccines. The Jersey team explained how these studies help confirm molecular structure, assess product purity, and monitor product- and process-related impurities in line with current regulatory expectations, including ICH Q6B-guided characterization strategies.
